One of the most confusing barriers for an adult returning to school is the language barrier. Think about it, the adult has been away from school for 5, 10 or even 20 years, and in that much time, more has changed in how we talk about education. What is the GMAT? What does “articulation,” mean? Even for current traditional students, some of these words may be foreign or unknown.
In our effort to bring you the most pertinent information to your plans of applying to return to school, we wanted to point out this small and fantastic Glossary from US News and World Report:
U.S. Higher Education Glossary
At this link you will find an exhaustive, but simple overview of terms often used in higher education. Use the “Find” function of your browser to search and locate any specific term in the list, or browse the list to make sure you are familiar with the difference between an “Associate’s” and “Bachelor” degree, or learn why you might need to locate your old “transcripts.”
Once you’ve done that, head over and take our new online assessment.
